Alquermes de México, a company located in the state of Sonora and specialized in pharmacological processes for better health and nutrition in the porcine sector, signed a collaboration agreement with the La Salle Bajío University (ULSA) of the city of León, state of Guanajuato.

The signing ceremony was held in Ciudad Obregón, Sonora, and was attended by Alquermes Mexico’s managing director, Gerardo Mayoral; the rector, Martín Rocha Pedrajo, and the vice-rector, José Amonarío Asiáin Díaz de León, attended the meeting on behalf of the university center.

Research and testing of new products for veterinary health

The objective of the agreement is to take advantage of the research and development synergies of Alquermes de México with the training of professionals specialized in Veterinary Medicine and Zoology from the ULSA.

The joint venture paves the way to new possibilities in the achievement of R+D+I projects regarding specific products for the improvement of animal health and food safety. USLA’s students will be able to carry out tests of effectiveness and of productive parameters of Alquermes’ products during their different development stages through in vitro and in vivo experiments.

The agreement does not close the doors on future national and international alliances

Optimism from both parties was the general tone of the meeting. From Alquermes de México, it was assured that the collaboration commitment does not rule out any future integration of other national and international partners in research projects related to different veterinary fields such as animal welfare and management, or in immunology and disease control, among others.

According to Dr. Eduardo Hernández González del Castillo, academic director of the ULSA Veterinary School, “it is a good agreement, since it considers broad aspects of collaboration that will provide excellent results for both institutions.”
